ELDER PATRIOT – Thirteen months after entering the race for the Republican presidential nomination against sixteen seasoned politicians Donald Trump has officially secured the leadership of the party. Amazingly, he did it by running against the party’s establishment and what the party had become.
When the votes were counted on the convention floor, Trump had won the support of 1725 delegates. That is 150 delegates more than Mitt Romney received in a four-man race in 2012. Romney had become the face of the #NeverTrump movement in a last ditch effort by establishment Republicans to save the neocon movement that was started by George H.W. Bush.

Neither Romney nor any of the Bushes attended the convention.
Even more significant was the overwhelming repudiation of the establishment by the voters who cast over 40% more votes for Donald Trump this year than they had cast for Romney only four years ago. This was despite Trump’s vote being diluted by the large field of contenders he was forced to run against.
Tonight, on the floor of the Quicken Loans Arena, the site of the 2016 Republican National Convention, Donald Trump has finalized his takeover of the Republican Party by promising to return the party to the be the voice of America’s working men and women. May God guide and protect him.
